Pretty Memories

Did you know that memories can be pretty? And I mean tangibly pretty. I was on this site and read about a this company. They make paper that’s plantable. Meaning, if you get one of their cards, for example, you could plant it and it’ll germinate in 6-8 weeks time. You’d have a long lasting memory of that event! How cool is that.

I’m a “thinking of you”-type card giver. While I do enjoy giving/sending cards to people on a whim, the budget has not allowed me to do so as freely as I’d like. (Thankfully, email still is free). But emails don’t have that same fragrant, blooming effect as flowers. I’m not really one to do cards for holidays (unless we’re super close) or even birthdays. And thanks to the little gift tags on gift bags, I don’t even need to invest in your trash can. But these plantable cards? I’d definitely try hard to get a few of those and send them to those people who I rarely see, but cross my mind. And what’s cool is that for a few bucks, I’m indirectly sending more than a card!

Tell me about what other little neat ideas you’ve seen/read/experienced.

Tyler Perry Surprises Snubbed Kids with Trip to Disney World

Wow! I saw this story and thought it was worth sharing. I think this is a nice example of how to spend a fortune.

I know that there are some fantastic (and very non-famous) philanthropists out there somewhere. But too often I seem to here more stories of people who have squandered their money, or taken a selfish gamble and lost. Here’s a story where someone with money thought of someone else who doesn’t have money.

Where Does The Time Go?

Sometimes, I wish I had an answer for that question. But alas, here we are. What’s new in our household?

Jhyelle’s busy motoring around like nobody’s business! She crawls quite quickly, and can get up the stairs as well. She walks along furniture, and is slowly learning to move from one area to the other by reaching out and grabbing the nearest item. She has 1 visible tooth, and is working on a couple more. Solids? Well, that eating is on the slow side. She’ll have a few bites of her rice cereal (yes, we’re still on rice cereal) and then she quits.

Jamayia’s turning 3 on Saturday. Yes, three, as in years old. I can’t believe that it was only 3 short years ago that I was first pregnant and anticipating her arrival. **sigh** Wow. She’s talking away. Her feet & body seem to only know one speed–run! She loves to help me. Her sleeping, on the other hand, has become outrageous. If she naps, then she’ll keep trying to escape her bed come bed time. And most times, in the middle of the night, she’ll find her way into our bed and get comfy and sleep. But lately, the worst has been waking up at like 7 ish AM. I don’t like waking up at that hour, but I have to get up with her, since she can’t tend to herself yet. Maybe we’ll work on that now that she’ll be three…

My 6th wedding anniversary is on Monday. I can’t believe it’s been 6 years. I remember that day with a big smile on my face. What’s more is that other people still remember my wedding & reminisce about it. Usually at other weddings, though, comparing the slackness to our pleasantly memorable event.

Well, there’s so much more, but so little energy left. I need to post more about wading pools & bicycles, among other things.

And pictures; must add more pictures!

It’s High Time For An Update

…so here’s some random spillage. And in no particular order:

One: I did indeed manage to exercise on Monday. I got a new DVD so it’s time to kick (or better yet, walk) it into gear. Hopefully I can carve out some sort of routine for myself. It’s the kids that need to learn to cooperate with me.

Two: I’m on Twitter. Check out the side bar and you’ll see updates on my tweets. Why? Not so much because I’m big into society’s latest trends. It’s moreso because I’m looking for a challenge for myself…a healthy challenge. I’ve been on the blogging slump, which is my own fault. So I’m leaping at the chance here that random twittering will encourage more frequent and just as random blogging.

Three: I’m twenty-nine years old. Yes, 29. My birthday was last Monday. Sorta had a low-key day. I’m not worried about turning thirty however. I am moreso concerned right now about not having a dull day next year…LOL. And presents. Why not be honest. I do like presents. They don’t have to be big or costly. Just something cool to show that someone thought about me So, I’m very open to suggestions on how to celebrate. I only have one idea so far: A birth month celebration, where I do something on each day in June.

Four: Kids are good. Jamayia’s turning three in July. Jhyelle will be nine months old next week. Where on earth does the time go?? I’m watching them grow up a little too quickly.

Five: Jamayia has speech concerns. She’s doing well, and she does talk. “They” are just worried that she’s a wee bit behind where she should be, according to textbook standards. And when you answer “their” questions, you can understand that she is kinda sorta behind. I really hope that it’s nothing major. She’s also being referred to the child development clinic, to check her for other issues. It was an option presented to us at her speech assessment. Why not take advantage of all the opportunities. Anything to help us raise her as best we can. After all, worst case scenario–she’s got a developmental issue of some kind. Best case scenario–she’s just stubborn and refusing to use her language.

Six: We need a new car. Did I mention that before? I’m pretty sure I did. But, it’s getting to the point that our car now functions best when it’s warmed up first. LOL. Yes, the engine needs to run for a few minutes before it’s ready to be moved. **sigh** New car is definitely not in the budget. So, this one will have to hold out until my miracle is here. I didn’t even talk about the space issues. Two kids in car seats=no room for extra passengers. Trunk space is also greatly reduced when travelling with double stroller. But I’m still thankful. It sure beats having no car at all.

Alrighty, that’s it for now.

More Playing & Exercise Confession

My girls had another play date today with their new friends. It was so neat to see how they’re all getting along more and more. It’s cool to watch their friendship developing, as well as their little personalities as they’re around their peers.

I did get a phone call right before leaving home. The weather was to be nice today and the Mommy was asking if we’d be up for walking. It was high time for exercise, at least from her perspective. I was happy to agree, because it was high time for exercise for me too! I’ve totally fallen off the bandwagon. So not cool!!!

I’m trying hard to make a plan to get back on the wagon. What had happened was this. In the dead of winter, it was easier for me to exercise one Jhyelle went down for her nap. This was simply because we weren’t really getting out places. Ever since the now melted, and we’ve been out of the deep freeze and ever so slowly warming up, I’ve tried to be out somewhere everyday. Thus, the routine has changed. I’m now busy getting myself and 2 other people ready to go out. No time for exercise.

Dumb excuse, I know. So, I’m on the hunt for a few other short videos that will encourage me to do my thing without sucking up all my time. I have a few in mind.

I am happy to report that we did indeed go for a walk today. Now to continue on this journey…

It Was Alright After All

So, despite the downpour of rain, it was a good day. I ordered a new pair of eyeglass frames. My prescription changed in one eye only. I toyed with the idea of either new frames or changing the lenses in my old frames. The price was right for the new frames. I’m also trying out some new contact lenses. We’ll see how these turn out for me.

Yay–something new!

Sweet 7 Months

Ladies & Gentlemen, we have a crawler on our hands. Jhyelle’s rapid movement progression started in utero, to be completely honest nearly 2 weeks ago. We got home on April 25th after being out all day, and she pulled herself up from lying down to sitting. By Thursday, April 30th, she was working hard at crawling faster. You should see her get around now! This kid clearly has places to go, and she’s not waiting for anyone to carry her there.

It’s so mind-boggling to watch this little one growth. She’s gorgeous! She’s just getting taller and filling out more and more. She’s trying to discover her voice and let herself be heard. Oh the fun we shall have. I can’t believe she’s a whole seven months old already. **sigh**.

Sweet

The NaBloPoMo people are encouraging year-round blogging. To help, they’ve named monthly themes to keep the creative juices flowing. Up until now, I haven’t bothered. I’ve always seen the theme and then started dreaming up posts in my head. But, I’m trying to actually blog it this month, rather than just think it. So, May’s theme–SWEET.

So much potential for this topic. Like, my sweet tooth (hello!! Found this delish brand of soy ice cream). Like, sunny days. Like, my family. Like, good books. The point is for my list to keep increasing over the month.

I took 169 pics today, mostly of the baby. For real…I set the timer option to take 6 consecutive shots, and then went trigger happy, since Jhyelle was happy! Here are a few shots. I literally do promise only a few…

There’s A First Time For Everything

After nearly three years, I’ve finally done it. Hosted a play date, at my house! It was fun. I had a friend** over, with her two little girls. They’re 22 months & 10 months old and it was good times. We grew up across the street from each other, and our parents still live in the same houses. Thanks to Facebook, we reconnected and have been in touch since. And who says that that Internet isn’t good for anything??

I’m just glad to be staying on course with my intentions with this home. Because this house is such a blessing to me, I just want to be sure to share that with my friends and loved ones. Our condo was smaller and made entertaining a wee bit challenging. Living with my in-laws made entertaining virtually impossible, simply by the fact that it wasn’t my home. But there’s no need for excuses any longer. It’s time to just do it.

So there’s no artwork or personal pictures up on the walls. The stucco isn’t even on yet. The bigger point is that I have a place, it’s a gift from God and I believe that it’s meant to be shared.

(**Friend runs her own home business. Check it out here.)
