It Was Alright After All

So, despite the downpour of rain, it was a good day. I ordered a new pair of eyeglass frames. My prescription changed in one eye only. I toyed with the idea of either new frames or changing the lenses in my old frames. The price was right for the new frames. I’m also trying out some new contact lenses. We’ll see how these turn out for me.

Yay–something new!

How Well Do You Know Someone?

Every now & again, I’m confronted with something (person, place, thing) that make me question how well I know people. Two things last weekend made me wonder.

The first (actually, the easier to explain): The spiritual gifts seminar at my church. We’re using a workbook that does a pretty good job at helping to determine one’s passions, gifts & personal style. One question was along the lines of if your name is mentioned among friends, what would they say are your passions or interests? That made me think not only of how my friends would respond, but how I would respond about some of my own friends. Some people are easy–they practically wear their passion like clothes. Some are more challenging, where their passions are like the soft notes of a great perfume…there, but subtle, yet appropriate. I’ll have to see if anyone asks me for their opinions on their passions.

The second (the more difficult to explain): A immigration-type letter on someone’s behalf to stay in Canada. When I first saw the email request, I thought hey, I like to write, I could do this. But then I read the entire message and had my mind changed. As I reread it again & again, my mind stay firmly planted on the thought that I really could not write a letter on this person’s behalf.

In the email request, we’re asked to state important things that I honestly and truly don’t know about the person. Things like: they’re not a burden to society; they’re responsible; their community involvement; how I know them and for how long; why it’s in Canada’s best interest to let them stay here; and how they have aspirations for themselves that can only be acheived by staying in Canada and contributing to this society.

Can you see my dilemma? I know who the person is and could point them out to you on the street, but I really don’t know them personally all that well. Certainly not enough to honestly include all that criteria in a letter. And I don’t just want to write a fluffy letter for the sake of adding to the numbers. I don’t even know what country this person is from (I know the continent) or where they’d have to go if they must leave Canada. I don’t even know why the immigration status is in question to begin with.

This is just reason enough to keep talking with my friends, and ensuring that I do know plenty not just about them, but about who they truly are.

I’m Actually Going To Do It

What?

Post pics on Facebook.

I never planned to actually post any pics of my kids. In fact, I haven’t even posted many pics of myself on there. But hubby, who “shares”/lurks on my account has many people on Fbook who keep asking him for pics of the kids. So, he asked me to post a few pics so that he can just refer everyone to my page. LOL.

Gotta love him!

NICU Photo Recap (Days 8-11)

Day 8: “Hello Mommy!” She’s finally in a regular bassinet.

Here’s a view of her bedside, minus all the equipment from the previous week. She was now only occupying one space, as opposed to two!

Day 9: Sleeping so soundly. She stayed that way for hours, despite our best efforts to wake her up for nursing.

Grandma trying hard to wake up her sleepy little baby. No luck for her either!

Day 10: Moved to another “pod” in the NICU. This is a step-down area, where going home is getting closer. She received her last dose of antibiotics that night.

Day 11: “Welcome back, Daddy!” She was moved to yet another step-down “pod”. It’s kind of nice to hear the nurses say that they needed her previous bed for a sicker baby. It means that she’s truly improving.

I Won?!

I’m one of those people who never seem to win anything really cool. Most times, if there’s a contest of some sort that I could enter, the prize is really small or really junky. Or else I seem the win the “contests” that I didn’t voluntarily enter (ie: work contests were everyone is automatically entered because the bosses said so).

For once, I won something cool. Actually two things. The first is a bar of soap from Tiber River Naturals. They often have contests on their blog where if you leave a comment, you’ll be entered into a draw to win a small prize. Well, I left a comment one day, and they were feeling generous and awarded all commentators (or commentors??) with a free bar of soap. That was very exciting for me.

Second contest was courtesy of Baby Bin Boutique. They ran a cutest BabyLegs contest, where you could email pics of your kid(s) in as many different pairs of BabyLegs you had. They were posting these on their blog and then all the names were entered, with five to be drawn to win a free pair of BabyLegs. So, I got the girls ready for a quick photo shoot and emailed 2 pics. Both girls won. I felt sooo excited!!! We won two free pairs on something decent and usable.

Oh, let me add on a third moment, which felt like winning, though no contest was involved. The BBB always has a promotion of some sort occuring. This past Saturday & Sunday, they were doing a “draw your own discount” thing, where you could earn between 10-50% off your purchase of both new & consigned items. I went down on Sunday, put a large purchase down on the counter and picked a folded piece of paper from their draw basket. I got…. 40% off my entire purchase. Yes, f-o-r-t-y!!! I felt like doing even more shopping, but held back. I’ll wait until next time. (Thanx, Jenn!!!)

It’s fun to win.
