Day 23: It Made Me Think

I just read an interesting comment in an article that made me stop and think. My first thought was that I was in agreement with the quote. My second thought was that this would make fantastic blogging material. My third thought was, do I really want to put that in the blog? I’ll risk alienating some readers or worse yet, lose some.

The short answer to the third question: yes, I do want to put that in the blog. I’m allowed to share my inner thoughts on my own blog, n’est-ce pas?

Now for the thinker comment. Someone was quoted as saying “Sometimes I am so grateful to God, that I don’t even ask Him for anything; all I can do is thank Him”. Sometimes I too am so grateful to God that all I can and should do, is thank Him, but I don’t always do that. I do stop and thank Him when I see answers to prayer or see ways that He’s intervened in my life for the best. Yet, that’s very easy and almost kinda basic to thank God for answering a request. But sadly, I don’t just thank Him for His goodness and sovreignty and mercy and unconditional love often enough. I really should, though, because He’s God and He truly has been so good to me, even without my requesting it and especially though I can’t even do anything back to Him as repayment for what He does and will do and has done for me. I’m glad to have recognized this before though and am trying hard to just give thanks regardless of what went on in my day.

God’s the only One I know that doesn’t require a reason or day or special event in order for me to thank Him. He’s just cool–that’s enough for me to just do it.

And now a couple pics to end off, as we’ve tamed Jamayia’s hair.

Twisty Girl

Wow…I’m still in shock. Jamayia sat long enough for me to do something to her entire head of hair. Usually I’m only permitted to do a row or two, maybe even half the head. Or else comb it in shifts. But yesterday, she seemed to have a change of heart. Maybe turning 8 months old marked a new milestone of baby maturity?

Yippee!! Hopefully she continues to cooperate…

And without further ado, the photographs.

Ever Seen A Baby With A Toupée???

So, let me recap a convo I had in the elevator in my building yesterday afternoon.

I get on the elevator, and a visiting (I know this because he had to buzz in) old man got in after me. He’s going up to the sixth floor; me, the seventh. I uncovered my sleeping Jamayia, to make sure she was getting air. Old Man, seeing a baby, needed to take a peek inside her seat.

Old Man: Oh, what a cutie!
Me: Thank you.
Old Man: Wow, look at all that hair!! **he reaches out and touches the hair**
Me: Yep…She’s got a lot.
Old Man: Is it real?
Me (in my head first): What tha business?!! What do you mean is it real? I didn’t know that they made WIGS for babies!!! What kinda ignorance….
Me (outloud): It sure is.
Old Man: Can I have some? **takes off his hat to reveal a mostly bald head with bits of long, white hair in some places** I could use some of that hair.

Then the door opened and he got off.

So, maybe one of my loyal readers can fill me in. Do they really make toupées for babies?

2nd Braiding Attempt

When was the last time you heard about Coolio? Remember him? He is a rapper turned actor, hot from back in the 1990s. Well, Uncle Sherwy brought up his name last Sunday. Said that Jamayia’s braids (à la Grandma) reminded him of Coolio’s hairstyle… That brother of mine is something else.

Well, Mommy did try her luck at braiding last night, after our bath time… Can you tell that I tried rebraiding it this morning? I only managed to redo half of her head before she got overly fussy…

First Set of Braids

Thanks, Grandma! She managed to tackle Jamayia and keep her distracted long enough to do this to her head:

It’s actually braided, not twisted. Understand that my child doesn’t like to have her head touched. So this was definitely an adventure. It probably won’t stay in for too long (she is going to the doctor tomorrow and there’s no need to look g-h-e-t-t-o). We’ll see how things look in the morning.
